Local Covid Numbers
*Note: There was a big drop in new Covid-19 cases in Bali yesterday (115) after Saturday’s 7-day average of 208. However, as we've learned it's likely the "Weekend Effect," where reduced testing capacity results in reduced reporting of cases. It was also the weekend before Galungan so many are very busy.
Click here to see the national numbers infographic and a Regency-by-Regency breakdown of yesterday’s local numbers, which includes a look back at last week’s overall totals.
The Big News
"Deportation of Foreigners Increases, Immigration Forms Foreigner Supervision Team" from Bali Post (Indonesian): In the past year, a number of foreigners were deported by Immigration for committing violations such as violating visas and length of stay, as well as committing criminal acts. The Head of the Regional Office for the Ministry of Law and Human Rights in Bali, Jamaruli Manihuruk, said that he had been deporting a lot recently. His party has formed a Foreigner Supervision Team (Timwas) and carried out joint operations with related agencies to monitor foreigners.
Context: The most recently reported deportation of a foreigner was a Thai national, who was deported on Thursday last week for drugs charges. Meanwhile, in a working visit of Commission III of the Indonesian Parliament in Bali over the weekend, Immigration was requested to tighten control of illegal foreign workers.
"No Hesitation to Deport Foreign Tourists Who Violate Prokes in the Green Zones" from Bali Post (Indonesian): The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno has said, "I still find some community members who do not wear masks and I remind them [to do so] because this is a green zone. The most important thing is that there will be sanctions for those who continue to violate health protocols. And for foreign tourists, we don't hesitate to deport them."
Context: Six foreigners have been deported from Bali due to health protocol violations, along with other violations, during the pandemic. Deportation of foreigners who commit health protocol violations was regulated by Bali’s Governor earlier this year. When foreigners are found not wearing a mask they are given a warning and fined Rp.1 million. If they commit a second offense, they are threatened with deportation.
"Kemenparekraf: Several Tourist Villages Will Become Examples for the Application of GeNose C19" from Antara Bali(Indonesian): The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno said, “I see GeNose C-19 can also be applied to other tourist destinations, including tourist villages.” His party plans to conduct trials for the GeNose C-19 test in the next 60-90 days.
