The Big News
"Student Masses Protest Against 2024 Election Postponement " from Indonesia Expat: Masses of the All-Indonesian Student Executive Board (BEM SI) have swarmed the House of Representatives parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta with a large-scale demonstration to voice opposition to the suggestion of postponing the 2024 election and extending the presidential term. On Monday 11th April 2022, the students urged the House of Representatives not to use its constitutional rights to amend the constitution, which regulates postponing elections and extending the term of office of the president.
Context: These protests come one day after Pres. Widodo set Feb. 14, 2024 as the date of the next federal and state elections, but did not explicitly say that he would not stand for a third term. Dozens of local students joined a simultaneous protest at the state legislature building in Denpasar, with village security forces joining police for crowd control, but media reports only noted their demand that the government work to keep inflation - most notably fuel prices - in check.
"Abandoned by her husband, Russian citizen and daughter were forced to be deported due to overstay" from Bali Prawara (Indonesian): Two Russian citizens, with the initials LN (33) and their daughter with the initials VN (3), were deported to their country, Sunday 10 April 2022. They were both known to have previously lived with their husbands in a guest house in the Ungasan area - South Kuta . But unfortunately, until now, her husband, who claims to work in Malaysia, has not returned... Until December 2021, SAN as the head of the family, left his daughter and wife in Bali, to work in Malaysia and returned to Russia. LN knows that she and her child can only stay for 30 days and her residence permit has expired since August 2019. However, she is always reassured by her husband that all visa matters will be taken care of by him and will be fine. "It turned out that after that, her husband did not return with the excuse that he could not go to Indonesia because the validity period of his passport was less than 6 months. Until finally he could not be contacted again, "said Jamaruli explained.
"Ignored for a week, garbage overflows at Monang-Maning TPS" from Bali Express (Indonesian): Recently, the city of Denpasar often raises the issue of handling and managing waste. In fact, dozens of 3R waste processing sites (reduce, reuse, recycle) aka TPS3R and Integrated Waste Processing Sites (TPST) have been prepared to overcome the waste problem in the capital city of Bali Province. But in fact the waste management plan is not as sweet as the reality. It is proven that the garbage at the Monang-Maning Waste Disposal Site (TPS), Tegal Kertha Village, West Denpasar overflowed to cover Jalan Merpati. In fact, according to the statement from the Head of the Tegal Kertha Village Headquarters, the piled up garbage has not been transported for almost a week. "It's been a week since the garbage has been left. We have communicated to the Denpasar City Environment and Hygiene Service (DLHK), he said the reason was about the limitations of heavy equipment," said the Head of Tegal Kertha Village Headquarters, I Putu Trisnajaya.
Context: Last week, Governor Koster promised that he would replace all of the island's current dumps and trash handling facilities with TPS3R & TPST facilities by 2023.
