This is because international tourism has just sprung up. With the news of the increase in the price of VoA, the Governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, responded that it was just false information. With the issue circulating, Koster said he had coordinated with the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. "To the tourism components, regarding the news that the VoA tariff has increased three times, from Rp. 500 thousand to Rp. 1.5 million, after I checked with the Minister of Law and Human Rights, it turned out to be not true. It's fake news, don't believe it," he said.
Context: Koster is the 2nd high-ranking official in as many days to say that news of a 3x hike in VOA fees was not true. Over the weekend, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights released a new fee schedule for visas, which included a tripling of the cost of a 60-day visa, but it left the VOA fee alone. The Chairman of Bali's provincial legislature, IGK Kresna Budi, while praising Koster's swift clarification, called for better PR coordination between the ministry and the provincial government.
