The Big News
"Foreigners Entering Bali Are Required to Have Two PCR Tests and Quarantine for Five Days" from Bali Prawara (Indonesian): The Head of the National Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Doni Monardo, emphasized that the plan to open the door to tourism in Bali must be accompanied by strict health protocols, especially related to quarantine issues. "Foreign nationals (WNA) who enter Bali are required to undergo two PCR tests and quarantine for five days. Based on experience so far, the behavior of foreign citizens cannot be said to be fully disciplined in the process so further handling is needed," he said.
Context: This statement was made one day after the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, said that a plan for a two-day quarantine for foreign tourists entering Bali's Green Zones was still being discussed with the National Covid-19 Task Force. Doni Monardo has also asked Bali to form a special Quarantine Task Force. The requirement of two PCR tests and a five-day quarantine is the same as the policy that has been in place for international arrivals, both foreigners and Indonesians, in Jakarta since December last year.
"Flash Flood Kills at Least 54 on Indonesian Island" from The Jakarta Globe: A massive flash flood and landslide triggered by overnight rain have killed at least 54 people on Adonara Island in East Flores District, East Nusa Tenggara, with authorities saying a lot more islanders are still unaccounted for. "As of Sunday afternoon, we have retrieved 54 bodies. The search and rescue efforts are still ongoing. Several villages were affected by the disaster following torrential rain and a wind storm on the island throughout the night,” said deputy district head Agustinus Payong Bol.
"11 People Died Due to Mount Lewotolok Lava Floods" from Republika (Indonesian): The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Lembata Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, said that the three worst-hit villages are Amakaka, Tanjung Batu, and Waowala. Heavy rain and strong winds also hit the local area. Many of the victims who died and disappeared in this incident were trapped in the flash floods of cold lava from the Ile Lewotolok Mountain area. The search process for missing victims in these three villages is still ongoing.

How You Can Help
In response to the collapse of the tourism sector in Bali and the resulting economic crisis, dozens of individuals and organizations have sprung into action, raising funds and distributing badly needed food and everyday essentials to the innumerable families who have suddenly found themselves without any source of income. We've been making an effort to document and raise awareness of these efforts. We will add information on projects in this space as we are able to confirm them. If you'd like to see a list of the efforts that we've featured so far and contribute to them with either time or money, visit our complete list here. You can also see a list of projects that have registered themselves at BaliSolidarity.org. If you know of an effort and would like to have them listed, please send their information to TheBaliBeat@outlanders.global.
