The Big News
“With PPKM at Level 3, Domestic Tourism to Bali Triples” from Kumparan (Indonesian): "When viewed from arrivals at the airport, it is currently at 4,300 per day. During the Emergency PPKM in June-July, it was only around 700 to 800 per day," said the Head of the Provincial Tourism Office Bali, Putu Astawa, on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the most popular visits are coastal areas such as Kuta, Legian and Pandawa beaches. He said that domestic tourist visits to Bali depended on the development of the dynamics of Covid-19 on Bali. If Covid-19 cases continue to decline, it is possible that tourist visits will be more crowded. "We hope that the Tourism Office can improve our tourism conditions. Because we are really down from the tourism aspect," he said.

“No Selfies at Tourist Attractions Without a Mask” from Liputan6 (Indonesian): Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno stated that the trial implementation of the opening of 20 tourist attractions during PPKM Level 3 and 2 last week showed positive results because they had implemented the CHSE standard and the PeduliLindungi application properly. However, he highlighted that there were still weak points in the application of health protocols, one of which was selfie behavior. "Especially when taking photos, when taking selfies, tourists like to take off masks, even though we said no," said Sandiaga on Monday. He asked all tourists to be more disciplined in wearing masks, even at tourist sites.
“Active Covid-19 Cases Fall Below 50,000” from Antara: The total number of active coronavirus cases in Indonesia dropped below 50,000 on Wednesday and is the lowest in a year, according to Health Ministry data. The country currently has 49,662 active Covid-19 cases, having recorded 2,720 new cases, 5,356 recoveries and 149 deaths in the past 24 hours. The last time it reported fewer than 50,000 cases was in early September of last year. President Joko Widodo said vaccination has become a priority in his government’s current Covid-19 policies. “We focus on two things: ramping up vaccinations and strengthening health protocols,” the president said.

“Human and Natural Resources Key to Sustainable Tourism” from Antara: Deputy Governor of Bali Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati has emphasized that maintaining human and natural resources as well as ensuring the welfare of Balinese people are the keys to maintaining sustainable tourism in Bali. "This is what we have to hold on to. How to make it, so that sustainable tourism does not get out of the concept. If we want to maintain culture as the attraction of Bali, the human and natural elements must be preserved," Sukawati said on Wednesday. Another important key was ensuring that the welfare of Balinese people was guaranteed through sustainable tourism. He believes that the people of Bali did not want to just be considered as objects of tourism on an island but also subjects, who partake in promoting tourism in their own place.

How You Can Help Bali
In response to the collapse of the tourism sector in Bali and the resulting economic crisis due to Covid19, tens of thousands of families have found themselves with a greatly reduced income—if any. By the middle of 2020, over 100,000 people on Bali had lost their job. While government support has been limited, Indonesians and foreigners have sprung into action, raising funds and distributing badly needed food and everyday essentials to those most in need.
We've been raising awareness of these efforts, and if you’d like to make a contribution of any kind, you can see a list of some organisations here. Further projects have registered themselves with Bali Solidarity. If you know of an effort and would like to have them listed, please send their information to TheBaliBeat@outlanders.global
